The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is seeking a motivated summer student to support two strategic projects that strengthen our role in Canadas research ecosystem.
Representative Duties:
Project 1: Tracking Graduate Student and HQP Outcomes
- Research Best Practices: Investigate methods used by other research facilities for tracking graduate student and HQP career progression.
- Design a Tracking Framework: Develop a systematic process for collecting and maintaining data on training outcomes and career paths.
- Create Data Collection Tools: Draft templates or digital forms for gathering information from students and alumni.
- Pilot the Process: Test the framework with a small sample group and refine based on feedback.
- Prepare Documentation: Write clear guidelines for future implementation and reporting to stakeholders.
Project 2: Bibliometric Study for Scientific Impact
- Review Bibliometric Methodologies: Research approaches for analyzing publication trends and citation impact in scientific literature.
- Design Study Methodology: Define scope, data sources (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science), and metrics for benchmarking CLS against other synchrotron facilities.
- Collect and Organize Data: Compile publication and citation data relevant to CLS research output.
- Develop Analysis Framework: Create a repeatable process for bibliometric analysis to ensure future benchmarking.
- Summarize Findings: Prepare a report outlining insights and recommendations for strategic planning and funding justification.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and will be returning to school in the fall semester.
- Demonstratable skills with internet search engines is a requirement.
- Familiarity with Google Scholar APIs is preferred.
