Description

The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is seeking a Summer Student to advance research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) applications within a scientific and operational context. This role will focus on continuing prior work on data availability, AI model development, and integrating AI into existing workflows. The student will explore opportunities for CLS to leverage AI tools, investigate emerging concepts such as Agentic AI, and conduct literature reviews on state-of-the-art technologies and algorithms. In addition, the position involves writing clean, maintainable, and scalable software solutions while collaborating with the team to build innovative tools that support CLSs strategic objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for students passionate about AI and its transformative potential in research environments.

Representative Duties:
- The primary focus will be the continuation of prior research conducted on data availability, AI model development, and the incorporation of AI into current applications.
- Assessing gaps and finding opportunities where CLS could benefit from AI tools.
- Conducting literature reviews on state-of-the-art AI technologies, algorithms, and techniques.
- Keeping up to date with recent advancements in the AI field and sharing knowledge with the team.
- Write clean, maintainable, scalable, and tested software.
- Work collaboratively and iteratively to build solutions that help achieve our corporate objectives.

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a programming diploma.
- Development experience in Python is an asset.
- Knowledge in training models, neural networks, deep learning, etc.
- Experience with generative AI.
