Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Councils (SRC) Rare Earth Element (REE) Division has an opening for a Process Engineer within their Research and Development (R&D) team to support the development, scale-up, and de-risking of processes for REE extraction, separation, purification, and product finishing. This role is responsible for driving innovative process solutions, improving operations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
Accountabilities
-Work as part of a team to design, develop, and test REE processes including hydrometallurgy, solvent extraction, metallization, and related systems
-Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and reporting to inform process improvements and scale-up strategies
-Contribute to risk assessments and implement safety protocols for new and existing processes
-Collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and assist with budget and proposal development
-Design, execute, and interpret experiments to develop and optimize REE processes
-Lead scale-up activities including process risk identification, parameter sensitivity studies, and step-change improvements
-Develop, review and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) as appropriate for pilot facilities and operating philosophies
-Perform process data analysis using statistical methods to quantify uncertainty, variability, and key drivers
Qualifications
-Degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline
-Registration or eligibility to register as a P.Eng. with APEGS is required
-Minimum 5 years of experience
The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
