The Livestock Attendant works in a swine barn environment to support the care and well-being of livestock. The role involves assisting with routine animal care under supervision, observing livestock condition, and supporting a clean, safe, and organized barn operation in line with farm procedures.
Duties:
- Feed and tend livestock according to established feeding programs
- Provide routine pig care activities under supervision and according to established farm procedures
- Observe livestock health and behaviour and report signs of illness or injury to supervisors
- Handle and move animals safely
- Maintain basic livestock health and production records
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of barns and livestock areas
- Assist with preparing livestock for sale as directed and under supervision
Working Conditions
- Physically demanding work; prolonged standing/walking, lifting, repetitive tasks
- Work in a livestock barn environment (odours, dust, noise, variable temperatures)
- Shift work may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays based on operational needs
Job Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience as a livestock attendant or in a similar role
- Ability to safely handle animals and perform physically demanding duties
- Basic ability to read and follow instructions and to complete simple written records
- Reliable transportation to the worksite or willingness to reside near the worksite
