Description

Kennel Attendants will be working under the supervision of the Operations Manager and Animal Care Manager (ACM); Kennel Attendants will attend to all aspects of the care and comfort of the pets at the SPCA Animal Shelter. A basic knowledge of animal behavior would be an asset, but this can be learned on the job.
Attendant is a key component in keeping our facility disease free! You will ensure the daily care and comfort of our animals by:
Safely cleaning and sanitizing all shelter areas including kennels, cages and runs, or any area where animals spend time, according to the procedure and standards required.
Ensuring each animal receives the daily food and water it requires, which often involves following personalized feeding routines
Assist bathing animals when required and other grooming needs (hair combing, nail clipping etc.)
Exercising animals as required, including walking dogs or changing out animals in the cat play room.
Reporting any abnormal behaviors or health issues to senior staff.
Handling sick or quarantined animals under the guidance of senior staff.
Dealing with difficult cats or dogs and being familiar with animal handling and restraint
Ensuring that laundry and dishes are processed promptly every day.
Assisting in stocking food and/or cleaning supplies as needed.
Promptly reporting any repair, maintenance or supply need to Animal Care Manager/Ops Management.
Lifting weights of up to 55lbs (dogs, kennels, cages, food bags, wood pellets etc.).
-Yard work, shed/seacan organization and bottle return if needed.
The majority of your work will be accomplished in the mornings, while the Shelter is closed to the public. This is not a desk job! You will be standing, walking, bending and lifting in the course of a day. Youll work independently, but always as an important member of a small team of dedicated animal lovers.
