An employee in this temporary student position will function as a Technical Assistant. This position undertakes activities in support of surface water quality monitoring projects potentially including Lake Diefenbaker, the QuAppelle Watershed, recreational lakes, the North and South Saskatchewan rivers, and streams throughout south-central Saskatchewan.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Preparing for field activities and organizing and maintaining equipment.
Collecting water samples in accordance with accepted scientific water quality monitoring procedures and protocols.
Managing water quality data collected manually or electronically in accordance with established procedures.
Identifying and reporting data discrepancies to ensure accuracy.
Working safely and participating in workplace safety programs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
The ideal candidates must be enrolled or a recent graduate in a post-secondary institute in the discipline of Biology or Natural Resource
Management. There is a particular interest in drawing current students with training or experience in aquatic ecology or environmental engineering.
Work may require considerable travel, an irregular work schedule and, on occasion, extended absences from headquarters. Travel, sustenance, and accommodation costs will be provided when required to work away from headquarters.
