We are offering a one-year term Provincial Specialist, Pest Regulatory position, with the possibility of extension.
We seek an enthusiastic, client-focused professional to provide expertise in plant health, crop pest surveillance, biosecurity, and pest regulatory and trade issues. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of crop production systems relevant to Western Canada, including survey methodology and current challenges; the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation such as The Plant Health Act and The Weed Control Act; and strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities. You must demonstrate excellent communication skills for conveying technical and regulatory information, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders. Eligibility for membership in the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists as a Professional Agrologist is required.
Typically, this role requires a graduate degree in agriculture or a related applied field, combined with at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Responsibilities include developing and administering provincial legislation, leading plant health and pest programs, overseeing surveillance and biosecurity strategies, monitoring pest emergence, and representing Saskatchewan on committees at various levels.
