The Role
Reporting to the general supervisor, surface freeze drilling, the senior geologist or senior engineer, freeze drilling is responsible for leading a large-scale directional surface freeze drilling program from design of collar and hole to hole completion and as-built documentation. This position will oversee and supervise this department, working to ensure safe working conditions and that freeze drilling tasks are delivered in line with both department targets and relevant regulatory requirements concerning safety, environment, and radiation.
In this role, you will:
-Conduct regular quality control inspections to ensure work meets specifications and standards.
-Provide oversight and coordination with drilling contractor, ensuring that the drilling program progresses as planned and minimizing impacts to execution which might hamper the production and development schedule.
-Troubleshoot drilling activities and provide solutions to challenges as required.
-Assist with the sourcing and expediting of parts, materials, and technologies to ensure optimal program performance and alignment with safety, regulatory, cost, and production schedule targets.
-Reconcile contract costs and invoices, communicating with the drilling contractor as needed.
-Support departmental budget development, providing updates and monitoring to ensure costs are effectively accounted for and controlled.
Required:
-bachelors degree in geological, geotechnical, or mine engineering or geology, or relevant work experience;
-five or more years of experience in the mining industry with a focus on diamond drilling, geotechnical, hole completion, or project lead roles
