Description

The City of Weyburn is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll & Benefits Officer to join our Human Resources & Corporate Services team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Corporate Services, you will be responsible for verifying and processing accurate payroll records and information, administering employee benefits and pensions, and supporting Human Resources and Corporate Services team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Ensure accurate, timely end-to-end processing and auditing of bi-weekly payroll transactions
    Update employee wage increases, calculate retroactive payments, and create payroll journal entries
    Collect and remit CRA source deductions and union dues
    Create and submit EFT files to the bank
    Onboard new employees and train on payroll and benefits processes
    Prepare and submit Records of Employment
    Update payroll program rates at the start of each year
    Reconcile employee accrual banks and General Ledger accounts monthly
    Track wage increase and sick leave hours for all employees
    Process year-end payroll, including T4s and Pension Adjustments
    Administer group benefits and pension plans, including enrollments, changes, and claims support
    Assist with compensation/benefit reporting and work closely with HR and accounting teams
    Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries from staff and supervisors
    Support Human Resources and Corporate Services with general administrative tasks, safety record-keeping, and training logistics
Required Education
    2-year post-secondary education in Business Administration/Accounting/Human Resources
    Payroll Compliance Professional Course with an active membership with the National Payroll Institute, and/or another formal payroll certification with an active membership.  
Asset:
    Certification with the Local Government Administration (LGA) would be considered an asset
EXPERIENCE
    Three years of progressively responsible payroll experience
    Accounting Software experience
