Description

The Ministry of Social Services offers meaningful work supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities through Disability Programs, Crisis and Respite Services. Athabasca Home in Moose Jaw provides planned respite to support the wellbeing of individuals and their care providers. The ministry is seeking caring, empathetic, proactive individuals who welcome challenges, enjoy variety, and are committed to helping people achieve the highest quality of life with full community participation.

The ideal candidate is patient, positive, adaptable, and clientfocused, with strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and supportive relationships. They demonstrate sound judgment, resilience in challenging situations, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. Effective role modeling, organization, and emotional steadiness are essential, along with comfort providing personal care, assisting with lifeskills development, and supporting individuals through routine and unpredictable situations.

Knowledge and skills are typically gained through onthejob experience, with previous work supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities or completion of a Special Care Aide program considered an asset. Candidates must be able to follow safety protocols, apply deescalation principles when conflict arises, maintain a positive work environment, and be legally eligible to operate a ministrysupplied vehicle. This is a 24/7 shiftwork position and may involve exposure to behavioural risk, with PART training provided.
Responsibilities include delivering personcentred support, effective verbal and written communication, assisting with personal care, promoting life skills, applying safety practices, and contributing to a collaborative, respectful environment.
