The Ministry of Social Services offers meaningful work that supports strong families, community wellbeing, and positive outcomes for vulnerable citizens. The Income Assistance Programs team helps individuals and families meet basic needs and work toward selfsufficiency. The ministry is seeking three Income Assistance Workers who are citizencentred, collaborative, empathetic, and committed to helping people facing barriers such as disability, mental illness, addictions, and unemployment.
Ideal candidates are adaptable, calm under pressure, and able to manage a fastpaced, changing environment with multiple priorities. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential to explain decisions, support planning, and maintain clear documentation. Candidates should understand social issues, multicultural perspectives, community resources, and the impacts of poverty and systemic barriers. Skills in motivational interviewing, respectful engagement, conflict management, and working with diverse individuals are key, along with the ability to interpret and apply policy and legislation. Comfort using databases and explaining budgeting principles is also required.
Knowledge may be gained through education or humanservices experience, including Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, Human Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related fields. The role involves communitybased work, office duties, virtual communication, and travel within communities, requiring a valid drivers license. Successful applicants must balance caseload demands while providing professional, compassionate service.
Responsibilities include meeting with clients to assess needs and goals, developing and monitoring service plans, collaborating with colleagues and community partners, and building strong relationships to support client success.
