The Research Technician works closely with ISASK team members to manage and maintain irrigated research trial plots. The Research Technician is required to be highly motivated, a self-starter, independent, and be able to quickly adapt to a rapidly evolving environment. The position is based at the Canada-Saskatchewan Irrigation Diversification Centre in Outlook, SK, and while not a government position, the Research Technician must be successful in passing federal security screening and is required to adhere to federal regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain field plot equipment.
Assist with field research activities, including site location and preparation, planting, plot maintenance and in-crop spraying, irrigation scheduling, harvesting and processing of crop collected.
Assist with the collection and organization of agronomic data.
Supervise seasonal staff.
Assist with organizing and providing tours of field sites and extension activities.
Ensure compliance with all corporate and government mandates related to conducting field trials and adherence to safety protocols.
Operate and maintain ISASK irrigation infrastructure and record irrigation applications.
Maintain field book records as to dates, inputs, application timing and methods, etc.
Sourcing project inputs (seed, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.).
Create and maintain a detailed inventory list of input supplies on hand (date/age of product, quantity, etc.).
