Description

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Operator to join the Swift Current Section within the Operations and Maintenance Division. The Ministry offers the opportunity to be part of a team responsible for operating and maintaining Saskatchewans provincial transportation network, including roads, highways, and airports.

The Ministry is looking for a reliable and safety-focused individual who works well in a team environment and is committed to maintaining a safe transportation system for the travelling public. The ideal candidate is adaptable, self-motivated, approachable, and flexible, with the ability to work in an inclusive and diverse environment. The position requires the ability to work under physically and mentally demanding conditions, including physical labour, heavy lifting, stressful situations, and extreme or changing weather conditions. Flexible work hours are required.

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a valid Class 1A drivers licence and provide a current driver abstract if invited to interview. Strong situational awareness and decision-making skills are required to respond effectively to changing road and weather conditions that impact public safety. Candidates must be able to operate, service, and maintain heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with specialized attachments, motor graders, and front-end loaders for summer and winter maintenance. This includes operating advanced hydraulic control systems for plows, wings, and sanders during snowstorms. The role also requires maintaining daily records, completing pre-trip inspections, tracking materials used, and demonstrating basic computer skills to manage email and submit timecards or expense claims.
