Tasks
- Oversee the implementation of fire prevention campaigns
- Plan, direct and co-ordinate firefighting strategies
- Develop and implement procedures and policies for related firefighting operations
- Co-ordinate and monitor budget and departmental resources
- Direct the training of personnel in firefighting methods
- Oversee analysis of data and information and prepare reports
- Direct activities at the scene of a fire
- Evaluate the type of fire, the extent of damage to buildings and the danger to nearby establishments
- Represent the fire department in communications with government, the media and the public
- Train workers in duties and policies
- Provide staff training
- Provide fire prevention education programs
- Prepare budgets and payrolls
- Participate in emergency response planning
- Administer first aid in emergency situations
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
- Manage incidents
- Oversee the preparation of reports and statistics related to areas of responsibility
