The Research and Continuing Education Finance Officer has a key role in the daytoday coordination of processes related to the efficient operations of the Office of Applied Research and Innovation (OARI) and the Centre for Continuing Education (ConEd), externally funded project administration, and internal funding opportunities. The position has a critical role in ensuring positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners; acts as the first point of contact in providing advice to faculty, students, and staff regarding external funding, internal funding, or any other projects within these offices; and provides support for ongoing office financial operations and budgeting.
Working in a fastpaced environment, the incumbent will be responsible for multitasking, providing daytoday management of external funding, prioritizing diverse projects with competing deadlines, and making suggestions to support decisionmaking based on changing, multifaceted, and sometimes ambiguous information. Additionally, the Finance Officer provides support to externally and internally funded projects and related activities, including financial and human resources oversight, as well as monitoring compliance with funding guidelines. The Finance Officer interacts with multiple units within the Polytechnic to arrange purchasing, hiring of staff for projects, and tracking the work/payment of those staff, along with completing financial reporting and invoicing. The position provides operational and general management of the internal database system and provides metrics and reporting support to the Associate VicePresident.
This position requires strong criticalthinking skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize information from a variety of diverse sources and implement solutions with a high level of awareness for both positive and negative outcomes.
