Description

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a motivated Equipment Operator for the Melfort/Tisdale Section within the Operation and Maintenance Division. You will be part of a team responsible for the operation and general maintenance of the provincial transportation network consisting of roads, highways, and airports. This position will be located in Melfort. The Ministry offers a safe, inclusive work environment and is committed to supporting economic growth through an integrated transportation system.

We are looking for a candidate with a valid Class 1A license and the ability to provide a current drivers abstract if interviewed. You should be adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work well in a diverse team. Strong situational awareness and sound decision-making in all weather conditions are essential. You must be willing to work under physically and mentally demanding conditions, including heavy lifting and stressful situations, and demonstrate flexibility in hours.

Key skills include operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks, motor graders, and front-end loaders for summer and winter maintenance. You will use advanced hydraulic controls for snowplows and sanders, maintain accurate daily records, and possess basic computer skills for email and timecard management. Success in this role requires contributing positively to team goals and ensuring public safety through surveillance and maintenance activities.
