Key Responsibilities
Install, repair, and replace locks, deadbolts, and security hardware
Cut and duplicate keys (standard, high-security, and electronic keys)
Respond to emergency lockouts for homes, vehicles, and businesses
Install and service electronic access control systems and safes
Rekey locks and master key systems
Assess property security and recommend upgrades
Maintain records of service calls and inventory
Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems
Ability to use key cutting machines and locksmith tools
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Good customer service and communication skills
Physical dexterity and attention to detail
Valid drivers license (often required)
Education & Training
High school diploma or equivalent
Locksmith apprenticeship or on-the-job training
Some regions require locksmith licensing or certification
Work Environment
Residential homes
Commercial buildings
Automotive service (mobile locksmith work)
Emergency on-call or after-hours work may be required
