The Ministry of Highways is seeking a motivated Equipment Operator for the Geikie River Section within the Operation and Maintenance Division. The ministry provides an integrated transportation system that supports economic growth and prioritizes safety. The ministry is looking for a candidate with a valid Class 1A license and the ability to provide a current drivers abstract if interviewed. They must be willing to take on physically and mentally demanding tasks, work flexible hours, and manage basic computer tasks such as email and time entry.
Key knowledge and skills include strong situational awareness, sound judgment in all weather conditions, the ability to make critical decisions affecting public safety, and the capacity to work under extreme and changing weather. Experience operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks, graders, and loaders is essential, along with the ability to use advanced hydraulic control systems for plowing operations.
Responsibilities include contributing to a safe work environment, performing surveillance and maintenance of roads, highways, and airports, operating heavy equipment for summer and winter work, maintaining records, and completing physical labour as required.
