Description

Under the supervision of the City Foreman in the Public Works department, the Labourer 2 carries out a variety of work necessary for the completion of the citys maintenance operations in the areas of water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage system, road, sidewalks, designated greenspaces, and other work as required.

Qualifications:
    Able to operate power hand tools and light equipment (Eg. Snow blower, lawnmower, road patching equipment, painter, weed eater)
    Some knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work.
    Demonstrated understanding of safety and safe work procedures.
    Must be capable of obtaining, understanding, and maintaining all necessary job-related training requirements.
    Ability to work safely, responsibly, and efficiently in all weather conditions.
    Ability to problem solve.
    Ability to be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position in all weather conditions on an ongoing basis including lifting up to 50 pounds.
    Ability to communicate effectively and interact politely with the public.
    Ability to understand and implement complex oral and written instructions.
    Ability to be insured and maintain continuity under the City's normal vehicle insurance policy (A drivers abstract may be requested.)


Requirements:
    Possession of Valid Class 3A and Class 5 drivers License
    Previous municipal operations experience would be considered an asset.
    Certification in SCOT Training, Equipment Competencies on all required equipment, traffic accommodation training, flag person training, ground disturbance, and First Aid/CPR which are provided by the city and required within the first year of employment.
Salary rate as outlined in the City of Melfort CUPE Local 777 Agreement
