Job Description: The Addiction Counsellor is responsible for supporting individuals that present with substance use and/or substance use related mental health issues in the emergency department. They will assess an individual's needs and developing a treatment plan. This may include short term counselling and/or referrals to longer term resources and they may need to case manage the coordination of stabilization services to enhance a successful referral to ongoing services. The Addiction Counsellor must be able to recognize the elements of a client in crisis and implement immediate action appropriate to the crisis. This may include assessing for risk of suicide and developing a safety plan. They need to maintain a working knowledge of MHAS internal departments and services, and community resources including the ability to collaborate with and make referrals. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"
