The Building Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, comfortable, and functional environment for occupants and users of City facilities. The position oversees the efficient operation and maintenance of facilities by performing routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning tasks, monitoring building systems, and addressing any operational issues that may arise. Duties include:
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of HVAC and mechanical systems
- Ice maintenance
- Ensuring proper water quality levels
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on building systems and equipment
- Address minor repair and maintenance tasks
- Ensure fire extinguishers, monitoring alarms, and security/lighting systems are in working order
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment readings, and service logs
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of City-owned equipment such as trucks, ice maintenance equipment, pool maintenance equipment, snow blowers, leaf blowers, air compressors, pressure washers
- Perform various janitorial duties
- Provide a high level of customer service
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Refrigeration Operators Certificate OR Firemans Certificate
- 2 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings
- Basic understanding of building codes and other legislative requirements for public facilities
- Knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations
- Familiarity with Microsoft-based computer systems
- Class 5 license
- Technical training in building operations (considered an asset)
- Ability to perform unassisted lifting to 50lbs
- Reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprint and schematics
- Attention to details, task prioritization, troubleshooting and problem solving skills
