SUMMARY:
The Mental Health/Addictions Worker delivers addictions and non-therapeutic mental health services to residents of Zagim Anishinabk. The role focuses on community-based prevention, education and awareness programming, as well as direct client assessment, referral, and support services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and deliver community-based addictions prevention, education, and awareness programs, including school initiatives.
Conduct client intake, pre-treatment screenings, assessments, and provide individual and group counselling.
Complete detox and residential treatment assessments; coordinate referrals, placements, and transportation as required.
Provide post-treatment follow-up and develop individualized aftercare plans to support long-term recovery.
Refer clients to external services when needs exceed local capacity.
Develop targeted mental health prevention and early intervention programming.
Maintain accurate client files, case notes, statistics, and reports in compliance with privacy standards.
Prepare reports, proposals, and correspondence as required.
Support community health promotion events and maintain addictions resource materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate or diploma in Addictions or related field with a minimum three years experience.
Extensive knowledge of addictions and impacts on First Nations families and communities.
Minimum five years experience working with First Nations communities and strong understanding of cultural protocols.
Minimum five years sobriety and commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and flexible hours.
Must be an Approved Mental Health Therapist.
Valid Class 5 drivers license, reliable vehicle, and insurable to operate Band vehicles.
