The Ministry of Community Safety is offering an exciting opportunity to join Community Corrections in Buffalo Narrows as a Probation Officer/Community Youth Worker. This role provides a rewarding balance of meaningful work and a northern lifestyle.
The ideal candidate is dedicated, adaptable, and skilled at working with diverse individuals, including those who may be resistant or experiencing complex personal barriers. They communicate effectively, exercise sound judgement, build strong relationships with community partners, and can travel and work flexible hours. They demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and the ability to make balanced decisions that support community safety and offender rehabilitation.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of addictions, mental health, domestic violence, family dynamics, poverty, disabilities, and the factors that contribute to criminal behaviour. They will understand theories of behavioural change, cognitive behavioural approaches, assessment strategies, and systemic barriers affecting clients and communities. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Qualified applicants will hold a degree from an accredited university or college, or a minimum twoyear diploma focused on behavioural change, assessment, or justicerelated studies, including Correctional Studies, Justice Studies, Community and Justice Services, Social Work, or Mental Health. Applicants meeting Community Corrections grandfathering provisions may also qualify. International credentials must be assessed to meet Canadian standards. A valid drivers licence and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, are required. Relocation reimbursement may be available with a twoyear returnservice commitment.
