Description

The Ministry of Community Safety is offering an exciting opportunity to join Community Corrections in Buffalo Narrows as a Probation Officer/Community Youth Worker. This role provides a unique balance of meaningful work with youth and adults alongside a lifestyle surrounded by outdoor recreation such as fishing, camping, hiking, canoeing and snowmobiling. The ministry promotes safe, secure communities and supports rehabilitation through fair and effective correctional services. Relocation reimbursement may be available through a twoyear returnservice commitment.

They are seeking candidates who are adaptable, professional and prepared for a fastpaced, dynamic environment where each day brings new challenges. The ideal individual is skilled in written and verbal communication, able to engage resistant clients, demonstrates sound judgment and can complete accurate assessments and progressive case plans. Strong knowledge of addictions, domestic violence, mental health, disabilities, family dynamics, poverty and the contributing factors of criminal behaviour is essential. Candidates should also understand intervention strategies, including cognitivebehavioural approaches and the systemic barriers affecting individuals and communities.

Qualifications include a degree from an accredited university or college, or a twoyear diploma focused on behavioural change, assessment or justicerelated fields such as Correctional Studies, Justice Studies, Community and Justice Services, Social Work or Mental Health. Candidates meeting Community Corrections grandfathering provisions may also qualify. Outofcountry education must be assessed for Canadian equivalency. A valid drivers licence, ability to travel and willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings, are required.
