The Ministry of Highways is seeking two motivated Equipment Operators for the Sand and Sulphur Section in the Operation and Maintenance Division in Prince Albert. The ministry supports a safe and efficient transportation system that contributes to economic growth and provides reliable service to Saskatchewan citizens. These positions are part of a team responsible for operating and maintaining the provincial network of roads, highways and airports.
They are looking for adaptable individuals who work well in a team environment, remain calm in demanding conditions and show a strong commitment to safety. The ideal candidates are self motivated, flexible, and able to make sound decisions in all weather conditions. A high level of situational awareness, strong judgment and the physical ability to perform heavy labour and handle stressful situations are essential.
Key qualifications include a valid Class 1A drivers license and the ability to provide a current driver abstract if interviewed. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, use basic computer programs to manage email and enter timecards, and operate in extreme or rapidly changing weather.
Knowledge and skills required include operating, servicing and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with attachments, motor graders and front end loaders. Operators must safely use advanced hydraulic control systems to manage plow, wing and sander functions during winter storms. Duties include road surveillance, general maintenance, completing accurate daily records of hours, inspections and materials, and supporting the safety of the travelling public.
