Description

The Ministry of Social Services is offering a term, lessthanfulltime opportunity as a Community Residential Worker with the Disability Programs, Crisis and Respite Services Unit. The ministry supports individuals with intellectual disabilities and promotes quality of life, community inclusion, and personcentred care. Employees receive thorough onboarding, safety training, and the chance to make meaningful contributions in a supportive, relationshipfocused environment.

They are seeking caring, empathetic, patient, and enthusiastic candidates who welcome challenges, adapt to change, and enjoy varied work. The ideal candidate is proactive, nonjudgmental, clientfocused, and committed to helping individuals grow. Strong communication, rapportbuilding, leadership, organization, and the ability to remain calm during behavioural escalations are essential. Candidates must be legally eligible to operate a ministry vehicle and comfortable working shift schedules, including days, evenings, and nights.

Key knowledge and skills typically come from 23 years of postsecondary education in a humanservice field such as Disability Support Work, Psychology, or Social Work, or equivalent experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex behaviours. Skills in deescalation, behaviour support strategies, active listening, and promoting independence are important.

Responsibilities include providing direct support, assisting with daily living, implementing behaviour plans, ensuring safety during escalations, transporting individuals, encouraging selfsoothing and independence, and fostering positive, trusting relationships with families and stakeholders.
