This is a casual part-time position where employees working at city library branches provide library services directly to the public and perform a variety of tasks to support that activity. They report to the Branch Manager or designate. The emphasis of this position is serving the public in person, on the telephone or via other electronic means. Employees of this class operate a wide range of office and computer equipment including devices found in automated library environments and they interact with the public, make independent judgements and display initiative.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Serve the public by registering patrons, checking materials in and out, shelving books, and interacting with patrons to determine their needs.
- Assist patrons in the use of library resources and equipment.
- Process, maintain and shelve library materials.
- Processes resources being shared between library branches and headquarters.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of library programs as well as other outreach services.
- Handle incoming money and issue receipts
- Follow all current library policies and procedures
Qualifications:
Minimum of Grade 12; strong interpersonal and problem solving skills; functional literacy skills along with demonstrated verbal/written communication skills; demonstrated ability to operate office equipment including computers; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to display judgement and tact in working with the public; availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; possession of a valid drivers license; physical fitness allowing the lifting and moving of boxes of library materials (up to 20 kg). Library experience an asset.
