The Groundskeeper plays an important role in maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of the Hannin Creek site. Working outdoors in a forest and lakefront setting, this position helps ensure the camp property, trails, buildings, and equipment remain clean, safe, and welcoming for campers, instructors, and rental groups.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, using hands-on skills, and supporting conservation and outdoor education programming.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Mowing grass, trimming brush, and maintaining trails and outdoor spaces
General landscaping and grounds maintenance
Keeping outdoor areas free of debris and litter
Assisting with minor building repairs and maintenance projects
Operating and maintaining equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, and hand tools
Supporting the setup and takedown of camp programming and events
Maintaining fire pits, outdoor gathering areas, and waterfront spaces
Assisting with waste management and site cleanliness
Monitoring facilities and reporting maintenance issues
Work with Mess Hall Manager and Cleaning Staff
Other duties as assigned
Groundskeepers help maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and outdoor areas while ensuring the property remains safe and visually appealing.
Qualifications
Minimum 19 years of age (preferred)
Enjoy working outdoors in a physically active role
Ability to safely operate lawn care equipment and basic tools
Ability to lift and carry up to 25-40 lbs
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
Reliable transportation to Candle Lake
Valid drivers license is a must
Basic maintenance or landscaping experience considered an asset
Working Conditions
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Physically active role requiring lifting, walking, and equipment operation
Occasional evening or weekend work will be required
