Description

Horizon School Division is seeking a dynamic and intuitive individual to provide leadership in the accounting services department, while providing strong client centered focus to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Roles and Responsibilities    
Ensure the Division operates in a fiscally responsible manner in accordance with the terms and conditions of funding received and with adherence to recognized Administrative Procedures and Ministry of Education requirements
Provides support to the Assistant Superintendent of Finance Services in areas of assigned responsibilities including but not restricted to accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, budget development and monitoring, financial risk management and internal controls
Assists in the preparation of year-end working papers to support the completion of the annual financial statements and provides support throughout the external audit
Responsible for month-end processes and preparation of monthly journal entries to allow for the timely and accurate completion of month-end, annual and ad hoc reports as requested by the CFO and Assistant Superintendent of Finance Services
Preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring compliance with ministry requirements and public sector accounting standards
Assist in development and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets
Oversight of general ledger accounts and preparation of adjusting journal entries as required

Education, Qualifications & Experience
Possess an Undergraduate Degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a major in Accounting or Finance
Holding or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA) would be an asset; an equivalent combination of practical training and experience would be considered
