Description

The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety offers a permanent fulltime Facility Youth Worker role at Kilburn Hall Youth Centre, supporting safe custody, rehabilitation, and positive change for youth offenders. The ministry seeks individuals who value respect, integrity, service, excellence, innovation, and teamwork, and who want a career that contributes directly to safer communities. The ideal candidate is committed, resilient, and able to work with youth aged 12 to 17, including those with trauma histories, diverse needs, and varied cultural or spiritual backgrounds. Candidates should understand the criminal justice system, adolescent development, and risk assessment, and be able to communicate clearly, think critically, and apply sound judgment in dynamic situations. A Class 5 drivers licence, First Aid/CPR certification, strong writing and verbal skills, and proficiency with computer systems are required. Education typically includes a degree in the social sciences, a law enforcement diploma, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Responsibilities include ensuring safety and security, providing assessment, counselling, program delivery, case management, interpreting legislation and policy, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and responding to incidents using safe, appropriate interventions. Successful applicants may be enrolled in the paid 11week Induction Training Program.
