Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Seasonal Grader Operator is responsible for road grading, assisting with road maintenance activities, maintaining equipment, and supporting other public works operations as required, including mowing, operating other equipment and general maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform grading, gravel placement, snow removal, and other road maintenance duties
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic equipment maintenance
Maintain accurate timesheets, work logs, and road maintenance records
Assist with other projects including mowing, culvert installation, sign maintenance, and other municipal infrastructure work.
Maintain a safe and respectful work environment while interacting with coworkers and the public
Follow municipal safety policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
Qualifications
Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence (drivers abstract may be required)
Experience operating a motor grader or similar heavy equipment
Knowledge of rural road maintenance and grading techniques
Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment checks
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
Basic computer or mobile device skills for recording work activities, timesheets, and communication
Position Details
This is a seasonal position, typically running from April to October, depending on weather conditions and operational requirements.
Typical working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however hours may vary based on operational needs.
This position is considered safety-sensitive, as the employee will be responsible for operating heavy equipment and working on public roadways. The successful candidate may be required to comply with municipal safety policies, including drug and alcohol policies applicable to safety-sensitive positions.
