Description

The Ministry of Highways supports an integrated transportation system that strengthens Saskatchewans economy and ensures the safety of the travelling public. The ministry is offering an opportunity for a motivated Equipment Operator to join the Geikie River Section within the Operations and Maintenance Division, contributing to the upkeep of roads, highways, and airports across the provincial network.

They are seeking a safetyfocused, teamoriented individual who brings strong situational awareness, sound judgment in all weather conditions, and the ability to work positively in a diverse and inclusive environment. Candidates must hold a valid Class 1A licence and provide a current drivers abstract if interviewed. Success in the role requires adaptability, professionalism, reliability, and the capacity to work under physically and mentally demanding conditions.

Key knowledge and skills include operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with attachments, graders, and loaders; using advanced hydraulic controls for plowing and sanding; maintaining accurate daily records; and applying basic computer skills for email, time entry, and expense submissions. The role also requires flexibility in work hours, strong decisionmaking abilities, and comfort working through extreme and changing weather.

Responsibilities involve supporting a safe work environment, conducting maintenance and surveillance of transportation infrastructure, performing summer and winter maintenance, and ensuring the safety of the travelling public through effective equipment operation and timely response to conditions.
