ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Family Worker supports the mandate of Child and Family Services using a strengthbased approach to gather and assess child and family information for case planning. Reports to the Protection Supervisor.
Responsibilities include:
Identify, document and respond to indicators of abuse, neglect and emotional injury.
Complete SDM risk assessments at required case stages.
Assess strengths and needs of children and families to increase protective factors and reduce risks.
Conduct interviews with children and families to assess risk and safety.
Provide referrals, guidance and supports to improve family functioning.
Organize and participate in case conferences and Family Circles.
Support clients in building confidence and skills.
Ensure compliance with case management standards and documentation requirements.
Monitor and evaluate service effectiveness.
Use computer systems (Redmane) for case documentation.
Meet legal and procedural requirements, including court attendance as needed.
Develop safety plans and identify required supports.
Participate in intake and oncall rotation for afterhours services.
Provide updated client contact information to Administration.
Follow all OLFS policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
B.I.S.W. or BSW
2+ years child protection experience
Valid Class 5 drivers license and acceptable abstract
Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector check
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of family dynamics and Saskatchewan Child and Family Services Act
Understanding of residential school impacts on OLCN
Ability to work under pressure
Program development experience
Strong ethics, attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
