Job Description:
The Maintenance Fireman is responsible for the school facilities and yard at Cornwall Alternative School. Cornwall Alternative School is a small Independent School in Regina with students aged 12-18 enrolled in Grade 7-12. Skills are required to perform multiple tasks in order to keep a safe and clean school environment.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
o Be responsible for the school facilities and yard. Either making repairs or arranging for repairs to be fixed in consultation with the Principal/CEO
o Making sure the school is always clean, and the yard is well-maintained
o Ordering supplies needed for maintenance
o Keeping the pathways and parking area free from snow/ice by shoveling, sanding, and using a snowblower
o Know and apply health and safety regulations for the facilities/yard
o Know and apply insurance regulations for the facilities/yard
o Keeping the boiler operating at the proper level and doing all regular maintenance on the boiler, or arranging for proper maintenance of the boiler through a Service Contract
o Waxing and scrubbing floors when needed
o Taking unused items to the Regina Landfill or arranging for their disposal
o Responding to security phone calls when the security of the building is threatened
o Doing minor repairs/and or changes in the facility or yard
o Setting up physical equipment and taking it down for school events
o Maintaining the interior cleanliness of school vans
o Be a team player with all Cornwall Alternative School Staff members
o Model appropriate social behaviour at the school
o Communicate all questions and concerns with Principal/CEO
o Report vandalism/forced entry
o Maintain confidentiality
o Catching mice in the building
Qualifications:
o Building operating experience
o Fire regulations up to code
o Drivers license
o WHIMIS training
o Able to 50+ pounds
