Qualifications:
Minimum one-year certificate in the basic human services field or three (3) years experience in the social, health or human service field.
Good oral and written communication and interpersonal relation skills.
Certification in first aid and CPR.
Safe Food Handling Certification
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of community resources.
Valid Saskatchewan drivers license.
Must be able to pass security clearances as required by the Ministry of Justice & Attorney General contract.
Experience in one or more of the following is an asset: nutrition, cultural diversity, life skills, and cycle of abuse, family violence, and child development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Capable of working any shifts that run through a 24-hour period.
Coordinate facilitation of in-house programming.
Perform crisis assessments in person and by telephone.
Apply crisis management skills when the situation dictates.
Develop a case plan and work as a team to ensure plan is implemented and follow up as required.
Ensure safety, security and protection of residents and facilities by following Policy and Procedure.
Prepare all snacks and meals for residents and their children.
Provide transportation to school, appointments and other situations as required.
Make appropriate referrals as required.
Conduct daily house meetings with residents.
Provide residents with information on abuse issues.
Keep accurate logbook and daily resident recordings.
Participate in orientation of new staff, volunteers, students, and work placements.
Participation as needed in policy making to ensure optimum teamwork.
Attend training-in-services, workshops and groups as required.
Provide advocacy on behalf of the residents and shelter.
Provide supportive listening to residents.
Assist residents with relocation plans by providing appropriate information and referrals.
