Description

The Ministry of Social Services is offering a term Case Assistant position in Buffalo Narrows within its Child and Family Programs division. The ministry provides dynamic and meaningful work, competitive salary, comprehensive benefits including pension, vacation and EDOs, inclusive work environments, and opportunities for advancement. This competition may also create an eligibility list for future roles, and Indigenous representation is prioritized while welcoming all qualified applicants.

The ministry seeks a candidate who works effectively with coworkers, supervisors, families, and caregivers, and who understands child welfare environments. The ideal applicant demonstrates professionalism, flexibility, and strong interpersonal strengths. They must be legally eligible to operate a vehicle and be willing to work flexible hours. Applicants must clearly show how they meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Candidates require knowledge of child abuse, neglect, domestic violence indicators, and the impacts of trauma, along with awareness of multicultural beliefs and values, especially those of First Nations and Mtis communities. Strong understanding of Human Services policies and practices is essential. This knowledge is typically gained through a diploma or degree in a Human Services field and experience in a related setting.

If space allows, responsibilities include supporting child protection teams by exploring placement options, arranging and supervising visits, transporting children, making referrals, coordinating case conferences, researching case files, and assisting with Treaty or Mtis status registration. The role may also involve accompanying caseworkers during protection investigations, documenting interviews, assessing safety risks, and offering recommendations.
