The RPCN Addictions Counsellor provides culturally grounded counselling, support, and case management services to RPCN members and families, impacted by substance use, mental health concerns, and intergenerational trauma. This role integrates a variety of supports, resources and treatments to best support wellness for their clients. In addition to working with members and their families, they will also work with the local school to deliver educational sessions and prevention programs on addictions and mental health, fostering early intervention and building resilience within the student body. The counsellor works collaboratively with Elders, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to promote culturally safe, trauma informed, and community driven care.
Responsibilities:
Conduct holistic assessments that consider physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.
Use trauma informed, strengths based approaches that honour cultural identity, family systems, and connection to land.
Provide individual, group, and family counseling that respects traditional values, and protocols.
Facilitate culturally relevant healing circles, land based programming, and wellness groups where appropriate.
Organize and participate in community wide events and education
Complete clinical documentation in accordance with ethical standards and community protocols.
Advocate for clients within healthcare systems, government services, or community programs.
Monitor and track client progress, ensuring consistent follow-up and support as needed.
Assess and respond to crises, including relapse, emotional distress, or safety concerns.
Work collaboratively with family, community supports, and crisis teams to maintain safety plans.
Actively participate in interdisciplinary care teams, in addition to reporting regularly to the Health Director.
A degree in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology is required.
