The Ministry of Social Services is seeking Emergency Duty Workers in Buffalo Narrows and/or Pinehouse to support families after hours. The ministry offers meaningful work in child and family safety, opportunities to support northern communities, and the chance to join an eligibility list for current and future roles. Indigenous representation is prioritized, though all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. Hours are not guaranteed and depend on frequency of emergency callouts.
The ministry is looking for candidates who can respond to crises, work flexibly, travel as needed, and manage physical demands such as lifting and transporting small children. Applicants must clearly describe how they meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and must be legally eligible to operate a vehicle in Saskatchewan.
Candidates require strong knowledge of humanservices policies, practices, and procedures and an understanding of how to support children and families in highrisk situations. This knowledge is typically gained through a diploma or degree in a humanservices field or through relevant experience in a humanservice setting. The role requires sound judgment, the ability to assess risk, and the capacity to work independently in urgent situations.
If space allows, responsibilities include investigating child abuse and neglect referrals, assessing child safety risks, participating in the afterhours emergency rotation, creating safety plans for families in crisis, transporting children or families, providing emergency financial aid, and documenting information to support case decisions. Successful applicants will work under a Child and Family Supervisor and may travel frequently with variable hours.
