Flag Persons play a crucial role in road construction. They are responsible for their own safety, the safety of the work crew, and the safety of the travelling public. A Flag Person controls the movement of traffic through the work zone using hand signals, a stop/slow paddle, and radio communication. Under the direction of the Traffic Accommodation Supervisor, the Flag Person will also assist in setting up and taking down the work zone, signs, and help maintain the signs throughout the day. A Flagger can also expect to be involved in some labour activities as well around the work site such as raking, shoveling, lifting objects, etc. Our ideal candidate must be willing to travel and overnight for 10 days on with 4 days off.
Qualifications
Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Responsible and reliable
Excellent communication skills and positive attitude
Attentive and alert
Ability to stand for long periods of time (12-16 hours with breaks from the flag station approx. every 2 hrs.)
Ability to perform physical labour from time to time pounding posts, lifting signs, cleaning, walking, installing temporary pavement markers, lift up to 50lbs, etc.
Must like working outdoors in various weather conditions including high winds and rain
Duties & Responsibilities
Control the movement of traffic through the work zone using two-way radio communication
Assist in setting up and taking down the road construction signs throughout the day
Ensure all signs are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis
Clean and maintain the sign truck daily
Participate in the company safety program
Perform other labour activities such as applying slurry to roadway, installing temporary pavement markers, installing string line, raking, shoveling, etc.
