The lab technician conducts analysis of plant and microbial materials. The work is mostly indoors in the lab and greenhouse with occasional field work during the summer months. We work 40 hours a week with flexibility around start and finish times. The lab technician reports to the lab manager. Duties include:
Preparing media, pouring plates, and isolating, maintaining, and analyzing fungi and bacteria
Planting, maintaining, inoculating, rating, and harvesting plants
Conducting biochemical and molecular experiments by following established protocols
Coming up with and testing out new ideas
Taking pictures, recording data, keeping records
Keeping the lab stocked, cleaned, and organized
Skills and qualifications
Degree or Diploma in biology, agriculture, microbiology or related science.
Experience working in a lab. Industry and/or farm experience is considered an asset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and follow written and oral instruction
Positive attitude and a sense of humour
