Description

The Ministry of Highways is offering an opportunity for an Equipment Operator to join the Kyle Section within the Operations and Maintenance Division. This role supports Saskatchewans transportation network, including roads, highways, and airports, and contributes to an integrated system that supports economic growth and prosperity. Safety is a core value, and the position offers stable, year-round employment with guaranteed winter wages, employer-paid health and dental benefits, averaged hours of work with an earned day off, opportunities for training and leadership development, the use of advanced equipment, and being home most nights.

The ideal candidate is approachable, flexible, self-motivated, and able to perform effectively in an inclusive and diverse work environment. This role suits someone who can manage physically and mentally demanding work, remain calm in stressful situations, and make sound decisions that protect the travelling public.

Applicants must hold a valid Class 1A drivers licence and provide a current driver abstract if invited to interview. Successful candidates demonstrate strong situational awareness, sound decision-making in all weather conditions, and the ability to perform general highway maintenance in extreme and changing environments. Basic computer skills are required to manage email and submit time and expense records.

Responsibilities include operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with attachments, motor graders, and front-end loaders; performing summer and winter road maintenance; operating hydraulic snow and ice control systems; completing inspections and operational records; monitoring road conditions; and working flexible hours as required.
