Description

Southeast College is looking for an Applied Research Student to join their team in Estevan or Weyburn. Student Researchers support applied research and innovation projects while contributing to the design, development, testing, and implementation of real-world technical solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Typical duties of the Applied Research Student may include, but are not limited to:
Contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of software systems and technical projects.
Assist with the design, implementation, and documentation of applied research and software development initiatives.
Support data collection, analysis, and troubleshooting activities related to project work.
Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to plan and execute project tasks.
Participate in project meetings and provide updates on progress and technical challenges.
Document project work, technical processes, and results for internal reporting or knowledge sharing.
Assist with coordination of project activities, events, or demonstrations related to applied research initiatives.
Contribute to testing, debugging, and refinement of prototypes or software solutions.
Additional duties as required.

PROJECT
Analyze historical dispatch dataset to support applied research objectives
Clean and structure data for exploratory analysis and machine learning
Develop and test an early prototype model for dispatch prediction and efficiency analysis
Document methods, findings, and recommendations for future project phases

QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in or recently completed a masters degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, or a related STEM field.
Strong experience contributing to research projects, advanced software systems, or technical development initiatives.
Demonstrated strong proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, or similar).
