Description

The Saskatchewan Ballistics Lab is hiring a Firearms Lab Technician in Saskatoon to support its mandate of delivering precise, reliable ballistic analysis for law enforcement and contributing to the fair administration of justice. The lab offers a specialized forensic environment equipped with advanced imaging and comparison technologies, and the role includes appointment as a Special Constable under The Police Act, 1990.

They are seeking a detailoriented, accountable, and resultsdriven individual who can manage multiple demands in a changing environment. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal, analytical, and problemsolving skills, and can work collaboratively with law enforcement, government partners, and other stakeholders. Professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain evidentiary integrity are essential.

Key knowledge and skills include understanding the Firearms Act, Criminal Code, and court processes; experience handling, identifying, and classifying firearms; and proficiency with databases, digital systems, and technical documentation. Candidates must be able to receive, document, and prepare firearmsrelated evidence, maintain chainofcustody, operate and troubleshoot specialized laboratory instruments, prepare technical reports, and support the development of expert testimony. The role also requires adherence to strict safety, security, and qualityassurance procedures.

A twoyear diploma in Forensic Science or Justice, combined with experience in policing, investigations, lab work, or firearms expertise, is typically required. Conditions of employment include a valid PAL or RPAL, firearms safety training, a drivers licence, ability to obtain Special Constable status, enhanced security clearance, and the physical ability to lift up to 25 kg.
