Description

The Ministry of Community Safety is offering a challenging opportunity for experienced law enforcement professionals to continue their careers as Saskatchewan Highway Patrol Officers. The role supports public safety by ensuring compliance with transportation laws, protecting highway infrastructure, and responding to incidents as part of the Provincial Protection and Response Team. The ministry values integrity, service, excellence, innovation and teamwork, and is committed to workplace diversity.

They are seeking highly motivated individuals with previous fulltime Canadian policing or federal law enforcement experience within the past three years. The ideal candidate is disciplined, professional and capable of making critical decisions in dynamic situations. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to interact effectively with industry, the public and partner agencies are essential. Candidates must be physically capable of performing inspections, handling firearms and useofforce tools, and working variable hours with travel and overnight stays.

Key qualifications include Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, recognized police recruit training, a valid Class 5 drivers licence, valid First Aid with AED, and the ability to pass POPAT within required timeframes. Applicants must also pass psychological and medical assessments, meet high standards of moral character, and be prepared to complete 10 weeks of commercial vehicle enforcement training. A bachelors degree or college diploma in police science, criminal justice, public administration or a related field is typically preferred.

Responsibilities include inspecting commercial vehicles, enforcing traffic and transportation laws, conducting investigations, issuing charges, testifying in court, responding to 911 calls when required, and supporting other police agencies.
