Description

Family Service Reginas Young Parent Program is dedicated to supporting pregnant and parenting youth and young adults in achieving school engagement, academic success and high school graduation. This position is one of two Support Counsellors who walk alongside young parents as they navigate complex and often intersecting challenges, including transportation, housing, financial stability, and access to essential resources. Through practical support, counselling and system navigation the role helps young parents build stability and confidence as they work toward their educational goals. Support Counsellors also provide outreach to young parents who are not yet ready to attend school, meeting them where they are and fostering pathways back to education when the time is right.
The position is primarily based in the Shirley Schneider Support Centre, located in Balfour Collegiate and works in close collaboration with Regina Public Schools. In this setting, the Support Counsellor plays a key role in helping young parents remain connected to their education while navigating the realities of parenting and other life circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Social Work or a related discipline.
Extensive experience working with young parents.
Experience facilitating groups and delivering psychoeducational programming.
Demonstrated ability to apply a range of counselling approaches.  
Strong understanding of abuse dynamics, including the cycle of violence.
Solid knowledge of child and adolescent development.
Comprehensive knowledge of community resources and the ability to support participants in navigating complex service systems.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated understanding of systemic barriers, including racism, poverty and gender-based violence.
A valid Saskatchewan drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.  
A satisfactory criminal record check is required.
