The ideal candidate is approachable, flexible, and self-motivated, with strong situational awareness and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions. Candidates must be comfortable working flexible hours, handling physically and mentally demanding tasks, and performing effectively in extreme and changing weather conditions.
To qualify, candidates must hold a valid Class 1A drivers licence and be prepared to provide a current drivers abstract if invited to interview. The role requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting, the ability to work under stress, and basic computer skills for managing email, completing timecards and expense claims, and maintaining daily operational records.
Key responsibilities include operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with specialized attachments, motor graders, and front-end loaders during summer and winter maintenance activities. Duties also involve operating advanced hydraulic systems for plows, wings, and sanders, conducting road surveillance, completing pre-trip inspections, tracking materials used, and working collaboratively to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
