Description

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a motivated Equipment Operator to join the Swift Current Section within the Operation and Maintenance Division. The ministry offers the opportunity to support a provincial transportation network of roads, highways, and airports, with a strong commitment to safety, modern equipment, training, and leadership development. They are looking for a candidate who is safety focused, adaptable, team oriented, and able to work in an inclusive environment. The ideal applicant is comfortable with physically and mentally demanding work, can make sound decisions in all weather conditions, and maintains strong situational awareness. A valid Class 1A license is required, and a current driver abstract must be provided if interviewed.

Key knowledge and skills include the ability to operate, service, and maintain heavy equipment such as tandem trucks, graders, and loaders; use advanced hydraulic controls during winter operations; maintain accurate daily records; manage basic computer tasks; and work flexible hours. Candidates should be able to contribute positively to the team, handle extreme weather, and ensure the safety of the travelling public.

Responsibilities include performing summer and winter maintenance, conducting surveillance and general road upkeep, operating snowplows during storms, completing inspections, and supporting safe work practices.
