We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Habitat Stewardship Technician to support conservation and land stewardship initiatives across Saskatchewan. This 5-month, term position involves ecological monitoring, habitat restoration, landowner engagement, and data collection to support biodiversity conservation, reporting to the Director of Habitat Stewardship. The position is open to candidates based in the Moose Jaw or Saskatoon area.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with field programs, including habitat assessments and biological monitoring
Conduct vegetation, wildlife, and habitat surveys
Support habitat restoration projects such as riparian plantings and native species installations
Prepare and maintain sites for restoration projects (staking, mulching, watering)
Monitor species at risk and sensitive ecosystems
Collect, record, and manage ecological data using GPS and field equipment
Assist with stewardship programming and community outreach
Prepare field reports, summaries, and technical documentation
Build and maintain relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, and partners
Maintain equipment and adhere to safety protocols
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
Field experience in prairie, wetland, forest, or riparian ecosystems preferred
Knowledge of Saskatchewan flora and fauna is an asset
Experience with tree planting or habitat restoration projects an asset
Proficiency with GPS, GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), and data collection tools
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
Comfortable working independently in remote outdoor environments
Valid drivers license and comfort operating 4x4 vehicles, boats, and trailers
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Physically demanding tasks including walking long distances and lifting equipment
Travel within Saskatchewan, including overnight stays as required
