Description

The Ministry of Community Safety is offering a challenging career opportunity as a Traffic Officer with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, focused on protecting highway infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users. The ministry seeks motivated individuals for permanent positions across the province who are committed to public safety, capable of working in demanding environments, and prepared to enforce transportation legislation for commercial and private vehicles.

They are looking for candidates who demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to interpret and apply federal and provincial regulations. Applicants must be physically capable of conducting vehicle inspections, handling firearms and useofforce tools, and responding to emergencies as part of the Provincial Protection and Response Team. The role requires independence, teamwork, and the ability to interact respectfully with the public, industry, and partner agencies.

Key knowledge and skills include understanding transportation legislation, commercial vehicle safety standards, investigative techniques, legal and court procedures, and public education practices. Candidates must meet mandatory requirements such as POPAT completion, a valid drivers licence, First Aid with AED, and psychological suitability for law enforcement. Training includes 22 weeks at the Saskatchewan Police College and 10 weeks of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement instruction.

Responsibilities include inspecting commercial vehicles, issuing charges, conducting investigations, responding to 911 calls, assisting police agencies, attending accidents, preparing reports, and delivering industry education.
