Description

The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW) is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to watershed stewardship, education, and habitat protection. SAW is seeking an Environmental Technician based out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan for a 6 month contract running from May to November. Successful candidates will report to the Director of Habitat Stewardship and assist with SAWs watershed programming across Saskatchewan.
Duties include:
Assisting with fish species at risk protection and habitat enhancement programs
Monitoring for aquatic invasive species on lakes across Saskatchewan, including collecting Zebra/Quagga Mussel samples using plankton nets
Driving SAW vehicles to monitoring locations
Cleaning, inventorying, and maintaining sampling equipment
Supporting water quality and habitat enhancement initiatives
Assisting with SAWs annual Tree for Life Program, including tree coordination and delivery
Supporting watershed education programs, including outreach events and presentations to schools and community groups
Assisting with Floating Treated Wetlands, SWEAP, and tree planting initiatives
Supporting additional SAW programming activities as required
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Physically demanding tasks including walking long distances and lifting equipment
Travel within Saskatchewan, including overnight stays as required
Qualifications:
Background or coursework in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Valid drivers license and ability to travel within Saskatchewan
Experience with environmental monitoring or public outreach is an asset
